Wedding Flowers: A guide by Jades Flowers

PERSONAL STYLE:

Before their first floral meeting, it is helpful for couples to collect images that they are inspired by and this forms the creative starting point.  The florist will review the images collected and gain inspiration from the portfolio of work.  From the feedback, talented florists will use their experience and knowledge to suggest bespoke creations that meet the vision, and exceed expectations.

Beverley from Jades Floral Design has studied colour for years and finds that many couples are rather afraid of colour.  As part of the initial consultation she is also able to suggest appropriate colour harmonies that they may have not previously considered.

Collaborating so closely with couple’s means that Beverley can also suggest meaningful, unique touches, such as using particular scents or flowers that evoke personal memories.

BUDGET:

It is the floral designers goal to deliver spectacular results within the budget so it is useful for couples to have an idea of what they would like to spend at the intimal consultation.

For couple’s with a limited budget, Beverley’s formal training and experience allows her to create designs with maximum impact with minimal flower content.

The ‘Jade team’ also mixes beautiful silk flowers with fresh flowers to create breath taking arrangements, so that every couple can enjoy stunning designs on their wedding day.  A good florist will also advises on how to re-use designs i.e. by moving arrangements from the registrars table and onto the top table, or placing by bridesmaid bouquets in vases to adorn the top table.  This ensures that couples receive the most use and impact from their floral arrangements.

At the other end of the scale, Beverley and her team are able to create large installations, from securing 8ft Birch Trees to marquee poles, to hanging 250ft of garlands across a venue.

DESIGN DETAILS

This is also an appropriate time to start considering other floral accessories that may be required.  Couples may wish to consider that flowers can be used in a number of ways throughout the day, ensuring that all of the different elements are beautifully co-ordinated.

  • Cake Decoration:

Wedding cakes can be decorated using the same flowers that are used for the table centrepieces.  This means that the cake co-ordinates perfectly with the rest of the room and looked effortlessly elegant.

  • Wedding Favours

Using flowers as a wedding favour is a particularly sweet gesture.  Not only is it an elegant gift, but it co-ordinates beautifully with the rest of the wedding flowers and can make a table look decadent and luxurious.

  • Decorating your Table Plan

Couples often like to personalise their table plans, to ensure that it is an extension of the style of the wedding.  A perfect and really easy way to do this is by using the same flowers included within the table centrepieces.

  • Chair Backs

Creating arrangements for chair backs are a beautiful way of adding interest to the room and looks simply spectacular in photographs.  Just a simple posy of flowers, co-ordinated with the centrepieces, looks stunning. When using a round top table it is the perfect way to define the table and ensure that it stands out!

  • Co-ordinating All Areas

Flowers can be used to co-ordinate all of the different areas that are used at a wedding, for guest books, dessert tables and gift tables etc.  Creating memorable displays using the same flowers throughout the wedding can ensure that all of the areas look connected to one another and equally styled to perfection.

LOGISTICS

It is also useful to have some idea of logistics before couples are distracted by a flurry of hen and stag celebrations, family gatherings and beauty appointments! It is beneficial to have an idea of vital information such as the number of bridesmaids, best men, guest tables, gift’s for the mothers of the bride and groom, corsages etc required but this can be altered and confirmed closer to the wedding date.

It is also a chance to provide delivery address and contact numbers and any other practical considerations such as any restrictions or preferences imposed by the church, ceremony space or venue if known by this point.
