Wedding Photos – Must Haves

You are on the straight and narrow with your wedding planning. Hopefully you are feeling confident that everything is arranged and in place for the fast-approaching big day. This blog is a handy guide for you to use to make sure you get all the important wedding shots of your special day. We want you to feel confident that you won’t miss a single part of your wedding, so when you look back through photos after the event there are no disappointments that you missed something or someone in your photos.

A handy checklist to hand to your photographer before the wedding is a great idea so you are all on the same page and your photographer knows what your expectations are. Of course, your photographer is a very knowledgeable professional who will know what to capture on the big day however if you have something in mind or have a big family/friend circle it is a good idea to write down how you expect the photographs to pan out.

Wedding Photo Timeline

  • Getting ready – It is important to capture every moment of your wedding and why not start right at the beginning with your hair, make up and getting in the dress wedding shots. If the photographer can also capture the groom getting ready too it will be a lovely memento to look back on what each other was doing the morning of the wedding when you were both apart.
  • Photos of the dress – Of course you need a good number of photos of you in your dress especially as this is something you have been trying on and getting the fitting right for many months. Enjoy your special moment in the gown of your dreams.
  • Arriving at the venue – Whether it’s a horse drawn carriage, a fancy car, a helicopter, or a beautiful staircase you are descending these photos capture the moment just before you say your vows.
  • First Kiss – A special moment between husband and wife which needs to be captured.
  • Group shots / family photos – If you have a big family/friend circle it may be a good idea to have written down who you would like in these photos so no one gets forgotten. There is nothing worse than looking back and realising you didn’t get a photo with an important relative so make sure you plan ahead as it will save any disappointment.
  • Confetti – This fun photo will always bring a smile to your face, the fabulous colours flurrying down and the look of pure joy on yours and the guests faces as they shower you with biodegradable confetti/petals is priceless.
  • Venue set-up and flowers – You have planned the way you want the venue set up and now capturing images of these important décor details is so significant as it is very personal to you.
  • Cake cutting – Everyone loves a cake whether its sponge or cheese so before it is demolished make sure you get some lovely shots of your picture-perfect cake!
  • First Dance – Last but not least every wedding album has one, your special first dance must be snapped, whether it’s a traditional slow dance or a choreographed routine it’s great to capture this moment.

We hope this list helps you when planning your wedding photographs, remember your photographer will be snapping away all day and will capture pure, happy candid moments which do not need any planning at all. Your wedding photos will be something you look back on year after year so make sure your photographer captures the moments you really want to treasure in the years to come.
