Roles Within Weddings Explained: Maid of Honour Duties

Have you been chosen to be the Maid of Honour? If so, you’re reading the right blog! It is such an important role to fulfil and you want to make sure you carry out what is expected of you with flair and finesse. Here is a run through of some of the main duties you may be asked to help with leading up to and on the big day.

  1. Wedding Planning Reassurance:

Two heads are better than one when it comes to planning so being on hand to help with any wedding prep that needs more than one opinion to see if it would work will take some pressure off the bride as it can be very stressful with a never ending to do list!

  1. Dress Shopping:

Going dress shopping with the bride and making sure you give helpful feedback as trying on dress after dress can be disheartening if not finding a particular style that suits, so keep the morale high and try and make light of the situation, the perfect dress will be found you just might have to try a few to find it. Also being on hand to help choose the bridesmaids dresses and finding the correct style and colour that will be very helpful especially if there are a few bridesmaids.

  1. Arranging the Hen Party

This can be a big event to organise so make sure some delegation happens with the other bridesmaids and close family members, so you don’t get overwhelmed with planning. However, you will know the bride the best and will be aware of what she enjoys, so make sure you don’t get swayed to do something you’re not sure she will like! Also think about older wedding party members who may not enjoy a night clubbing or an obstacle course, it is a good idea to do a day party think afternoon tea possibly, which they can enjoy and not feel to out of their comfort zone.

  1. On the Wedding Day

This is where your help and calmness will be crucial. Nerves will be running high and you will need to keep your cool as a lot of things will be asked of you. Firstly, making sure the bride and the bridesmaid’s hair and makeup appointments are ticking along like clockwork and there are no hold ups whilst everyone is getting ready. It is a good idea to make sure everyone’s hair and makeup is looking tip top and to carry on checking throughout the day especially when the photos are being taken.

A traditional job is holding the bride’s bouquet during the ceremony and signing the wedding register as a witness it is also helpful to keep an eye on the flower girls and page boys in case, they may need any assistance.

  1. Enjoy the Day

Your top job for the big day is ensuring the bride is happy and try and take any stress away from her as she will just want to soak up her wonderful day. Things need to run smoothly and if that means talking to caterers, helping with hair/makeup fixes and even toilet breaks these are done with no questions asked!

The most important thing to remember is this is the day the bride has been building up to for quite some time and your help and support will be greatly received. This will make the day one to remember and cherish with lots of fond memories of your time together arranging the most perfect day!

I hope you have found this blog helpful and if you know a best man that needs a helpful hint or two of what duties might be expected of him look out for next weeks blog update!
